Sea buckthorn (LAT. Hippophae rhamnoides) is, undoubtedly, one of the superfoods of Europe and Asia. The plant grows in the form of a small shrub, producing small, orange, perfumed berries, which are pressed into a delicious and nutritious juice. Our juice blends are minimally processed and they taste divine: sweet with just the right degree of tartness to make them refreshing.Known and utilized since antiquity, sea buckthorn is very rich in Vitamins A, E and C, carotenes, antioxidants, essential fatty acids and minerals such as selenium, and zinc. It is an amazing tonic and a natural beauty aid, with noticeable effects on skin and hair. Its history of use is fascinating. The ancient Greeks used to feed it to their horses, as they had noticed that it made horses’ coats shine. In Tibet, the berries were consumed by mountain dwellers to boost their energy and resistance to extreme conditions. In the former Soviet Union, it was included in the diets of (cosmonauts) astronauts to enhance their resistance and protect them from the effects of radiation.

In Armenia, sea buckthorn is highly appreciated and it is part of the culinary traditions of the country. The berries are generally harvested in the wild and used in a variety of ways: in juices, compotes, teas, jams and jellies. Harvesting the berries is a laborious process as everything is hand picked. The bush has vicious spines and the pickers have to be extremely careful not to hurt themselves and not to damage the fragile berries.

If you have not tasted the sea buckthorn juice, you are in for a treat!
